lyrics

I learned how to stand tall and pledge allegiance to a flag, fallen down from spacious skies to amber waves gone gray. I learned how to handle a gun, shooting targets in the yard. I put down my rifle, I saw it could only kill. I learned how to drive a car from the Polk County Law. I drank Boone’s Farm, I smoked some pot in High School years ago.

A photo of my brother and me and I see the fists landing blows. I’m writing out my fury, but the winds have sure died down. I see your rich getting richer and I see your poor falling down. I see a nation’s destiny as weapons broker of the world. As soon as I could make a fist, I aimed it toward your eye. I sold my gear, I packed my bags, threw down the cash, pressed GO.

When the planes hit the towers and those old devils rose, I had a friend who said to me, “we got what we deserved.” And when the right came out to talk and they put it to a vote, they put a man in office, who stands there as a hoax. I learned how to leave a country I was told was great. Dragged down and mired in, tragedy and hate.

I’m writing down my future and I see the ink’s run dry.

I had to stop. I can’t turn back and pledge allegiance to a flag, flying over ramparts turned gun metal black.
