I’ve got shadows in my eye and hiding deep in me. Even with my clouding view, it don’t mean that I can’t see. You can ride on that western trail, you can gallop far away. You can hide and cower there, but those bullets fly your way.
I’ve walked now in your footsteps long. I’ve followed you too far. And all those views I’ve set upon, that I’ll never see again. I’ve stood now on this stage of games, I’ve seen the lights shine bright. And all those bullets flying near are not meant as a guide.
I’ve never lived my life that way, in the fantasy you saw. And when the storm blew over, you were left gasping for air.
It never came to the light the tragedies we held. Some things we buried oh so deep, like a cancer on the field. The people gone before us now, the roses we never grew. The heavy crowns we got to wear, the shining diamonds of our youth. The dreams we lost while drifting didn’t matter along the way. They’ve come flying back around the browning fields we walk. The turning leaves we see them now, they’re flying by so fast. The bullets on the other hand are striking hard and low.
